New Song and Group Arrangements

Sadly, after a year of playing together Troy and Levi have decided to leave the band. It was great playing with them, however Levi needed to spend more time with his family and new baby Ezra and Troy has another musical project that he is devoting his time to.

With both bass and synthesizer players leaving Young Feathers is becoming an acoustic band. Michelle will now be playing accordion and there is a new member, Craig Fenwick, who is joining in on banjo! Some of the old songs we will continue to play as part of our set, however there are new songs being developed to fit the acoustic arrangement. This frees us to play virtually any setting whether that is your house, a park, alleyway, or coffeehouse.

Before the rock band dismantled we went back to the Transverbal attic studio at Nacho Palace and recorded “End of Times” with guest vocals by Destroy All Robots Arielle Campion! Two other songs from our set were also recorded that weekend thanks to the hard work of David (from 9 AM until 12 PM!) and the band. Who knows what will happen to this collection of songs? Stay posted for details.

I am a fan of this fan

Last week I saw on our bandcamp that someone had purchased “Middle Class War” in the UK. Every time someone purchases one of our songs is exciting but this was extra special because it was over seas and seemingly out of nowhere. I contacted our new British fan to find out what the connection was. He wrote back:

Well it is like this,
I have just given up work so have no access to my old computer; just set up my lap top. Been playing around with the music sites, my brother gave me a link to Talis Kimberley, folk singer from Liverpool and your link happened be along side a list of others. Amongst all he other protest songs etc.
You remind me of the sound of late 60 - early 70 protest movement. Country Joe MacDonald and the Fish, Woodstock, early Bob Dylan. All the anti war songs of those days. Also the song fits the mood of small European counties, Ireland, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece and not to mention Iceland. Just blame it on good old serendipity.
Attached is a photo of me.

Bye for now,
                        Francis.

N.B. watch out that those fascists south of the border do not grab your oil reserves.

Podcast/ Hiatus

Young Feathers was featured in a Toronto Sounds Good Podcast available here . Some of the other bands include, alt-country Strumbellas and the bluesman Suitcase Sam.

If you’ve been wondering where we’ve been at lately, well Jared & Michelle are getting married June 11th and Levi and his wife Katrina just had a baby!  Needless to say, we have been on a little break. Still, the band is staying in top shape practising to be perform as the wedding band with friends and members from a sister band Destroy All Robots . Some of the songs include Page France’s “Chariot” and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes “Home”. The ceremony is open to the public so if anyone is really interested you can come!

“During the days that we have been discussing my hypothesis that modernity can be studied as an extension of Church history, I have again and again tried to show you that our present world can finally be understood as a perversion of the New Testament. So, I do not believe, with some, that this is a post-Christian world. That would be consoling. I believe, though I’m hesitant about the term, that it’s an apocalyptic world. At the very beginning of our conservations, we spoke about the mysterium iniquitatis,  the mystery of evil, the nesting of an otherwise unthinkable, unimaginable, and non-existence evil and its egg within the Christian community. We then used the word Anti-Christ— the Anti-Christ, which looks, in so many things, just like Christ, and which preaches universal responsibility, global perception, humble acceptance of teaching instead of finding out for oneself, and guidance through institutions. The Anti-Christ, or, let’s say, the mysterium iniquitatis, is the conglomerate of a series of perversions by which we try to give security, survival ability, and independence from individual persons to the new possibilities that were opened through the Gospel by institutionalising them.”
